Boolean logic is a subject, which was considered a prerequisite to building a computer, so this is what Jon Titus says in the original article: "Those not familiar with the basic operations of a computer and various number systems used will find Computer Architecture, by Caxton Foxter, Van Nostrand Reinhold, New York, 1970, $12.50 an easy to read and understand introduction that should be read before attempting to build or use the Mark-8."
